Materi dalam buku ini disusun secara sistematis, dimulai dari hakikat ilmu sosial dan perilaku kesehatan, perspektif ilmu sosial dalam kesehatan, konsep perilaku kesehatan, Nilai sosial kesehatan, hingga evolusi teori perubahan perilaku yang meliputi Health Belief Model (HBM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), dan Model Ekologis. Salah satu karakteristik utama buku ini adalah penyajiannya yang tidak hanya menjelaskan setiap teori secara terpisah, tetapi juga menunjukkan hubungan dan perkembangan antarteori secara evolutif.
